An Iowa City man was taken into custody earlier this month after he allegedly tore up a yard with his vehicle and was found to be intoxicated.

According to the criminal complaint, 49-year-old Milton Thurmond of Winter Eagle Trail SE was called in as a reckless driver the evening of May 15th by a reporting party after he allegedly drove through the party’s front yard, causing damage. When police arrived, Thurmond’s vehicle reportedly had scratches and twigs sticking out of body panels. When they attempted to make contact with him, he was allegedly defiant and slammed his front door on deputies present when asked to stop outside.

Thurmond eventually agreed to talk with the deputies, and allegedly admitted to driving after coming from a bar. He refused chemical testing, but was observed with the odor of ingested alcohol and visibly poor balance.

Thurmond was arrested and charged with OWI 1st offense and Interference with Official Acts; if convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to 13 months in jail.
