City of Iowa City news release
The Iowa City Fire Department responded to a residential fire at 3:53 a.m., Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 2055 Plaen View Drive. Reports indicated the front of the house was on fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene six minutes after being dispatched and encountered fire in the front of the home that had spread into the attic space and a vehicle in the driveway. The fire was brought under control 14 minutes after arrival.
Two occupants of the home safely exited prior to the fire department’s arrival. There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Iowa City Fire Marshal. Total damages are estimated at $100,000.
The Iowa City Fire Department was assisted by the Johnson County Joint Emergency Communications Center, Johnson County Ambulance Service, Iowa City Police, and MidAmerican Energy.
