An Altoona woman was arrested Sunday after she allegedly assaulted hospital and jail workers in Perry and Adel.
Kristin Kori Overton, 26, of 1064 35th St. S.W., Altoona, was charged with assault by inmate with bodily fluids or secretions, interference with official acts, interference with a correctional officer, two counts of possession of contraband in a correctional institution, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
The incident began about 3:15 a.m. Sunday outside a bar in downtown Perry, where officers of the Perry Police Department responded to a report of a bar fight.
The officers made contact with Overton, who presented with “slurred” speech and “a strong odor of alcohol emanating from her person,” according to court records.
Overton tole the officers that “she wanted to go to the hospital for injuries that occurred during the fight,” and she was transported by EMS to the Dallas County Hospital, according to court records.
At the hospital, Overton allegedly became “belligerent” and began “yelling at staff members from the hospital” and “slamming doors” and generally presenting with “impaired judgment,” according to court records.
Despite her continued resistance, Overton was arrested, handcuffed and transported to the Dallas County Jail, where she then allegedly “fought with jail staff” and spat in a jailer’s face, according to court records.
A search of Overton’s belongings disclosed a quantity of marijuana and a pipe, according to court records.
Overton was held in the Dallas County Jail on a $17,000 cash or surety bond. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 12 in Dallas County District Court.
