A five-year prison sentence has been handed down to a Solon man accused of being dangerously intoxicated when he crashed a golf cart with his two children inside.
The incident occurred just after 6:15 on the night of July 27th, 2025. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says 37-year-old Ethan Eggers of Palmer Court NE was driving the golf cart on Macbride Place NE when he proceeded through the intersection with Highway 382 without obeying the stop sign. The golf cart crashed into the side of an SUV, causing the cart to flip and eject all three passengers. The two-year-old girl suffered a skull fracture and hematoma, while the five-year-old boy suffered cuts and abrasions. Both children were taken to University of Health Care on Hawkins Drive
Investigators say Eggers’ blood alcohol concentration was .377%. The National Library of Medicine shows a BAC above a .30 could result in unconsciousness or even death.
Eggers was initially charged with Serious Injury By Vehicle, Child Endangerment Causing Serious Injury and Child Endangerment Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted on all three counts, he would have faced a maximum of 20 years in prison.
Eggers agreed to plead guilty to the Serious Injury By Vehicle charge, with the other two counts being dismissed.
Earlier this week Judge Justin Lightfoot sentenced Eggers to five years in prison and fined him $1,025.
