A Perry man was arrested Friday afternoon after a short scuffle with law enforcement following a routine traffic stop on Iowa Highway 141 in Perry.
Curtis Gene Hoyt, 60, of 500 Fourth St., Perry, was charged with interference with official acts-bodily injury, interference with official acts, driving while suspended and no license.
The incident began about 3:45 p.m. Friday on eastbound Iowa Highway 141 near Diagonal Road, where an officer of the Perry Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a 1996 Chevrolet Lumina, driven by Hoyt, who was known to the officer to be operating without a valid driver’s license, according to court records.
The officer directed Hoyt to step out of the vehicle, but Hoyt allegedly refused, so the officer “physically assisted” Hoyt “out from the vehicle,” according to court records.
Once outside the vehicle, Hoyt allegedly “continued to physically resist,” according to court records, and the officer “physically assisted” him “to the ground,” where at length he was handcuffed.
In the course of the interaction, the officer sustained “minor small cuts on the top of knuckles” of one hand, according to court records.
Hoyt is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond before being released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Dec. 9 in Dallas County District Court.

He was convicted of assault causing bodily injury in 2018 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of assault in 2019 in Dallas County District Court.
