A 57-year-old Beloit, Wisconsin, woman has been scheduled to appear in Scott County Court after an apparent arson at a Davenport Kwik Star earlier this month, according to Scott County Court records.
Deanne Chance faces felony charges of first- and second-degree arson, as well as interference with official acts – dangerous weapon; and aggravated misdemeanor charges of third-degree criminal mischief and assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, according to Scott County Court records.
An earlier news release from the Davenport Fire Department says that about 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, the Davenport Fire Department received a call from the Scott Emergency Communications Center for a structure fire at the Kwik Star in the 1200 block of East Kimberly Road.
Witnesses called 911 and reported a fire near a liquid propane storage cage outside the building. One witness used a fire extinguisher to knock down most of the fire. Fire crews arrived and found light smoke coming from the propane storage cage.
Firefighters used a small amount of water to fully extinguish the fire and remained on scene to interview the witnesses and investigate the fire.
Crews discovered there were signs the fire was intentionally set. During the fire investigation, a woman who matched the description of a suspect returned to the scene. She threatened police officers with a knife and tried to set fire to the gas pumps, the release says. Police were able to subdue her and place her in custody.
No one was injured.
On Saturday, Chance remained in Scott County Jail on a total $251,000 cash-only bond. She is scheduled to appear Nov. 6 for arraignment in Scott County Court.
