
A Sterling man was arrested after burglaries to area businesses .
According to a release from the Sterling Police Department, on October 18, 2025, Sterling Police received two reports of burglaries to local businesses, in the 2600 block of E. Lincolnway and the 1800 block of E. 4th St. During the course of the investigation, officers identified the suspect in the crimes as Austin McConnell, 32. McConnell was located in Rock Falls with the assistance of the Rock Falls Police Department and was transported to the Sterling Police Department.
On October 18, the Sterling Police Department arrested McConnell on the following counts:
- Burglary – 2 counts, Class 2 felony
- Theft – Class A misdemeanor
- Criminal Trespass to Property – 2 counts, Class B misdemeanor
- Criminal damage to property – 2 counts, Class A misdemeanor
McConnell was processed and released with a pending court date. The Sterling Police Department was assisted by the Rock Falls Police Department and the Whiteside County Sherriff’s Office.
