Farmers are deep into this year’s harvest, and ideas for field meals may start to dwindle. Pork products can help with those harvest meal ideas. Ashley Martinez- a chef, dietitian, and member of the National Pork Board’s Pork and Partners community of health and wellness professionals- said farm families can heat up those tailgate-style field meals with some fresh, flavorful ideas straight from the heart of pork country.

Martinez said crockpot recipes are a simple and delicious way to add vegetables to harvest meals. They give farmers the sustainable energy they need through balanced nutrition packed with vitamins and minerals while keeping things easy and flavorful out in the field. All pork should be cooked to a minimum of 145 degrees Fahrenheit with a three-minute rest.

Pork can easily be a staple in harvest meal planning. It’s versatile, flavorful, and pairs well with delicious side dishes. Whether it’s pulled pork sandwiches, tenderloin medallions, or hearty crockpot roasts, pork is a protein fueling farmers through those long harvest days.
