The SBC Outreach Music & Arts Academy will hold its annual coat drive beginning Saturday, Nov. 1, and continuing every Saturday through Dec. 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Second Baptist Church Family Life Center, 919 6th Ave., Rock Island, a news release says.
“This year, the need is greater than ever.,” the release says. “The number of children served by the academy has grown to over 60 students—including 40 boys and 20 girls—and the organization is calling on the community to help ensure that every child stays warm this winter.”
Donations of new coats in these sizes are needed:
- Girls: Sizes 4–10, 12/14, 14/16, and XL16
- Boys: Sizes 6, 7/8, and 14/16
- Adults: Women’s and men’s coats, sizes small to XXL
In addition to coats, the academy is accepting hats, gloves, scarves, and boots. Any items received beyond the goal of 60 coats will be distributed to families in the surrounding community.
“Our mission is simple — to share warmth, compassion, and hope,” said the Rev. Carmen Ausborn, executive director of the SBC Outreach Music & Arts Academy. “Every donation, big or small, helps us reach more children and families in need.”
Monetary donations are also welcome to help purchase needed items. All contributions are tax-deductible. Community members, businesses, and organizations are encouraged to participate and help make a difference this holiday season.
