SIOUX CITY, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — In support of large-scale projects that create a significant community impact, Missouri River Historical Development (MRHD) awarded $1.25 million to nine Siouxland organizations.
The grants were given to educational, nonprofit, and governmental organizations for capital improvements.
President of MRHD, Sarah Kleber, said MRHD has given out millions for over 30 years.
“These were grants for up to $250,000. Today, we have awarded $1.25 million for this grant cycle for projects we hope to be seeing up and out of the ground in the next year,” said Kleber. “It’s just part of our total reinvestment into Woodbury County which we’ve done since 1994 for over $58 million.”
The organizations that applied had to match 25% of the award toward the investment of the goal.
Heath Weber with Morningside University accepted a $250,000 grant to help enhance the Morningside Campus.
“We’re very excited to accept a $250,000 grant from the MRHD board that will support sound enhancements all across campus at Morningside, Allee Gymnasium, as well as Eppley Auditorium.”
MRHD was able to obtain a portion of the funds from the Iowa legislature to reinvest in the community.

- Boys and Girls Home of Sioux City – $234,375
- Danbury Community Club – $75,000
- Pierson Volunteer Firefighter Association – $74,539
- The Miracle League of Sioux City – $54,748
- Siouxland Humane Society – $37,000
- Goodwill of the Great Plains – $25,000
