A Louisa County man accused of sexually abusing his own mother has been given a ten-year prison term.

That was the sentence handed down on Friday by Judge Shane Wiley in the case of 33-year-old Duane Martial Crossett III.  A news release from the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office indicates Crossett’s 67-year-old mother reported that her son, with whom she lived, had forced his way into the shower and sexually assaulted her. The woman was transported by authorities to University of Iowa Health Care on Hawkins Drive in Iowa City. Evidence collected during an investigation indicated that a sexual assault had occurred.

Crossett was initially charged with 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse, Elder Abuse, Incest, Sexual Abuse Causing Injury, and Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury. If convicted on all counts, he would have faced a maximum of 26 years in prison.

Crossett pleaded guilty to the sexual abuse charge, with all other charges being dismissed.
