Yesterday, President Trump made a post to his Truth Social account regarding U.S. cattle producers and his plan to increase beef imports from Argentina in an effort to lower beef prices for consumers. The post is causing what the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association (ICA) calls “unnecessary market swings [that] influence the daily lives of those working to raise a safe beef product for consumers.” ICA CEO Bryan Whaley said we are still learning the details of President Trump’s comments and his import plan.

The markets are seeing a huge impact from President Trump’s comments, which is affecting the decisions that cattle producers are able to make at this time of year.

President’s Trump comments also included a claim that the cattle industry has been doing “terrible” for the past two decades. This claim isn’t just untrue- Whaley said it’s also unfair to cattle producers who have been working incredibly hard to support themselves and the country’s beef industry.
