Henderson County deputy earn award for saving driver's life

Deputy Dominic Barszczewski has been honored with the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office Life Saving Award for his commendable actions on Oct. 10, 2025, a news release says.

He responded to a single-vehicle accident in rural Oquawka, Ill., where a car had veered off the road and hit an embankment.

The driver suffered severe ankle injuries resulting in arterial bleeding. Recognizing the critical nature of her condition, Barszczewski applied tourniquets to both legs, effectively stopping the bleeding.

Medical professionals including EMTs, paramedics, and doctors agreed that his prompt intervention was crucial in saving the woman’s life, the release says.
