Longtime United States Senator and farmer Chuck Grassley is not optimistic that the upcoming meeting between President Trump and China’s Xi Jinping will reach a satisfactory conclusion on soybeans. The two presidents are set to meet at the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in South Korea.

That is Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa. President Trump says he will discuss China’s tariff ban on U.S. soybeans with President Xi Jingping at the upcoming summit. Trump recently threatened a 100 percent tariff on China over rare earth metals but then pulled back on the claim. While not optimistic about the meeting, Grassley says Trump should turn to biofuels as an alternative method to boost domestic demand for soybeans.

Grassley is also asking for the President’s support of Grassley’s bipartisan year-round E15 legislation.

Senator Grassley made his comments on Wednesday during his weekly ag conference call with farm broadcasters and reporters.
