ESTHERVILLE, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — The rain didn’t keep hundreds of folks away tonight from Estherville’s annual “fright hike.” This is their 13th year of hosting the hike for community members.
The hike is a half mile walk through the park, and it includes a clown village, Bigfoot, graveyards, bone collectors and many other “scary” items.
The event costs each person $10 dollars. There are about 60 volunteers to make the night happen.
“It’s a very unique experience. How many times can you go out into the woods and have a haunted house that’s actually out in the woods. I mean, Blair witch project kind of solidified how scary the woods are at night. We’re giving you 231-acres of terrifying dark woods, and we add extra fun stuff. It’d be scary just walking through here on your own and then we add actors and all sorts of fun stuff. It’s a good time,” Lexie Ruter, the executive director said.
The hike was split into two parts. The less scary “lights on” hour from 6:00-7:00 that’s good for families. And the “full scare” that goes from 7:00-9:30 for those seeking a more frightening experience.
