
A movie with roots in Kewanee is showing at the Wanee Theater, 106 S. Main St., Kewanee.
“Fairyland” is based on the memoir “Fairyland: A Memoir of My Father,” by Alysia Abbott, daughter of poet Steve and Barbara (Binder) Abbott. The film is about Alysia Abbott, who grew up in the 1970s and 1980s in San Francisco with her father, and is set against the gay rights movement and the AIDS crisis.
Alysia Abbott visited her grandparents in Kewanee for many summers.
“Fairyland” debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in 2023. It stars Emilia Jones as Alysia and Scoot McNairy as her father.
The movie will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursday-Sunday, Oct. 23-26. For more information, visit here.
