The Davenport Fire Department held an open house to give people a chance to meet the next fire chief.
Jeff VanderWiere will takes over the job from outgoing chief Mike Carlsten. VanderWiere comes from Portage, Mich., with 29 years of experience. VanderWiere told Our Quad Cities News he’s focused on taking care of the community and says it’s important to start meeting people early.
VanderWiere will start the job November 3 and will be sworn in November 5.
