ACME Comics replaces candy with free comics for Halloween

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — Over the weekend, ACME Comics embraced the spirit of Halloween with an exciting promotion aimed at comic book enthusiasts.

The store hosted a “trick or read” promotion, offering a unique twist on traditional Halloween activities. Throughout the day, visitors were invited to select two free comic books, along with a complimentary poster and other fun amenities. The owner of Acme Comics told Iowa Media Wire that while trick-or-treating typically involves candy, their goal was to inspire a love for reading among children.

“Seeing people come out and having a good time. And just the excitement of seeing some kid getting their first comic for the first time and reading it, just the joy in their eyes. That’s why we do it,” said Kevin Mcgarry, the owner of Acme Comics.

The next Free Comic Book Day at Acme Comics will be on the first weekend of May in 2026.
