The cause of a Sterling fire is currently under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.
According to a release from the City of Sterling, the Sterling Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire in the 300 block of W. 7th St. September 19 at approximately 9:09 a.m. Fire crews arrived on the scene and found smoke and flames coming from the rear of the two-story home. All residents were safely evacuated before fire crews arrived. Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior attack and successfully extinguished the fire.
Sterling Fire was assisted on the scene by the Dixon Rural & Rock Falls Fire Departments, Sterling Police, CGH Ambulance Service, Sterling Code Enforcement, and the State Fire Marshal’s office. The fire caused extensive damage to the kitchen and most of the first floor, with moderate smoke damage throughout the second floor.
No residents or firefighters were injured during the incident. The three residents displaced by the fire are being assisted by the Red Cross.
