The Kiwanis Club of Rock Island has completed a service project and fundraiser that placed 24 new bicycles, along with helmets, locks, and pumps, into the hands of youth and families in Rock Island, a news release says.

On Sept. 11, bicycles were delivered to four local partners: Washington Junior High School’s “Winning Warriors” program, the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, Quad Cities Alliance for Immigrants and Refugees (QCAIR), and World Relief Quad Cities. These organizations will distribute the bikes as awards and opportunities for deserving young people.

The project was made possible through the generosity of Rock Island Kiwanis members, friends of the club, and community partners including the Quad Cities Bicycle Club.

“Our mission is to make a difference in the lives of children here in Rock Island,” said Jeff Condit, Rock Island Kiwanis president. “Providing bicycles not only brings joy, but also encourages independence, healthy lifestyles, and community connection. We are proud to see so many groups come together to make this possible.”

Washington Junior High School will host its first bicycle giveaway during late September, with additional awards to follow later in the month of October. Other recipient organizations will share photos and stories of their distributions in the weeks ahead.

The Rock Island Kiwanis Club is part of Kiwanis International, a global volunteer organization dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time. The local club meets weekly on Mondays at noon at the Quad City Botanical Center and supports a variety of service projects that enrich the lives of children and families in Rock Island.
