SIOUX CITY, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC) President Dr. Terry A. Murrell announced he will retire at the end of the school year.
According to a release from WITCC, President Dr. Murrell plans to retire on May 15, 2026. Dr. Murrell was hired in 2007 as Vice President of Instruction and Student Services, began serving as president in 2011, and has been president since.
According to a release, under Dr. Murrell’s guidance, WITCC has gone “through transformative growth, strengthening student success, expanding partnerships, and enhancing the college’s role in the communities it serves.”
Dr. Murrell stated, “Serving alongside our faculty, staff, and students has been one of the greatest privileges of my career. Together, we have navigated challenges, celebrated milestones, and, most importantly, made a meaningful difference in the lives of our students and the communities we serve.”
The WITCC Board of Directors plans to begin the search for the next president further down the line, with more details shared as those plans develop.
While serving as WITCC president, Dr. Murrell nearly tripled the graduation rate, established a food pantry & health center, introduced athletics, expanded on WITCC’s mental health services, and strengthened WITCC’s overall mission, the college said.
Dr. Murrell said in the release that he is confident in the future of WITCC. He said, “I am proud of what we have accomplished and know the college will continue to thrive in the years ahead. It has been an honor to serve as president.”
