Thousands of people across Iowa are taking to the streets next month as part of a statewide health initiative.
Bettendorf’s Parks & Recreation Department is hosting an event for the 15th Annual Healthiest State Walk, part of the Iowa Healthiest State Initiative, on Wednesday, October 1 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at Kiwanis Park, 4223 Greenbrier Drive. The public can walk on one of Bettendorf’s beautiful trails and check out several special features along the way, including:
• The Bettendorf Public Library, Bettendorf Parks & Recreation Department and Parks Maintenance Division have partnered to create a StoryWalk that allows visitors to stop and read one page of a book as they circle the path surrounding Kiwanis Park. The StoryWalk is funded by the Bettendorf Public Library Foundation.
• Get a sneak peek inside some Bettendorf Public Works vehicles
• Socialize with Bettendorf Police Officers and Firefighters
• Play games with the Bettendorf Parks & Recreation Department, Bettendorf Public Library and the Family Museum
• Learn to play Pickleball with the Quad Cities Pickleball Club
“The Healthiest State Walk is a great way to get the family outdoors and enjoy one of our amazing neighborhood parks,” said John Byrnes, Parks & Recreation Director. “Kiwanis Park has been recently updated and is an incredible venue to host a fun event for the whole family.”
The Iowa Healthiest State Initiative is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization and its goal is to ensure every Iowan can live their healthiest life. Collaborating with worksites, communities, schools, retail food, organizations, institutions and individuals creates awareness to improve the physical, social and emotional well-being of Iowans.
