SIOUX CITY, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — The latest drought monitor update from the USDA (US Department of Agriculture), NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), CPC (Climate Prediction Center), and the NDMC (National Drought Mitigation Center) is in.

The NDMC released the latest drought monitor update on Thursday, September 11th. Only a small area of abnormally dry conditions continues to remain in western Siouxland.

The areas still seeing abnormally dry conditions are far western Knox County and northwestern Antelope County in Nebraska.

Iowa is continuing to see worsening conditions in the far southern regions of the state, with 7.77% of the state experiencing abnormally dry conditions.

No change was seen in South Dakota, with Moderate Drought staying at 7.53% of the state, 19.32% of the state being abnormally dry, and 73.15% of the state remaining drought-free.

Nebraska also saw no change over the past week in drought conditions. Severe drought exists in 1.28% of the state, moderate drought exists in 16.43%, and 29.7% of the state is abnormally dry. This leaves 52.59% of the state not experiencing drought conditions.

Some spotty showers are possible at times through the next scheduled update, though rain accumulation looks limited for the Siouxland region. Limited to no change in the drought monitor is expected.
