Area farmers can learn more about the farmland assessment process at a series of meetings with state representatives.
State Representatives Dan Swanson (R-Alpha), Norine Hammond (R-Macomb) and Travis Weaver (R-Peoria) are hosting free farmland assessment seminars around the area September 2 and 3. No RSVP is required and anyone with questions should contact Rep. Swanson’s office at (309) 334-7474.
Brenda Matherly, director of local government for the Illinois Farm Bureau, will give the presentations, which are hosted by the legislators and local county farm bureaus. There will be four events over two days, which are free and open to the public. The presentation will be the same at each location.

- Wednesday September 3, 8:30 a.m., Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau Office, 1000 N. Main Street #1, Monmouth
- Wednesday September 3, 11 a.m., Spoon River College Community Outreach Center, 2500 E. Jackson, Macomb
“These meetings will help local residents better understand the farmland assessment process and how to go about challenging the assessment of your land if you feel something is incorrect,” Rep. Swanson said.
