INWOOD, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — One person is dead and four people were injured in a two-vehicle crash near Inwood on Thursday.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said on July 31 that at about 10:35 a.m., they received multiple 911 calls for a crash in the 2200 block of Iowa Highway 182, north of Inwood.
Officials said an initial investigation shows a black 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe was heading north on the road behind a white 2024 Chevrolet Blazer.
Iowa State Patrol said the Blazer slowed down to turn onto a driveway when the Tahoe hit the rear end of the Blazer. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said both vehicles stopped in the east ditch.

Authorities said the driver of the Blazer, Stanley Kroese, 90, of Sioux Center, suffered fatal injuries. The other person in the SUV, Joan Kroese, 84, of Sioux Center, was taken to a hospital in Sioux Falls.
State troopers said the driver of the Tahoe, Jennifer Simpson, 39, and two children, ages seven and nine, all of Rock Valley, were injured. All three individuals went to a different Sioux Falls hospital, two by ambulance and one by an air ambulance service.
Law enforcement said the crash remains under investigation.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in responding to the crash by Iowa State Patrol Troopers, Inwood Fire & Rescue, Larchwood Fire Department, and Sanford Canton-Inwood Ambulance.
