Updates to one of the oldest parks in Rock Island are intended to restore it to its original design.
The lagoon area of Longview Park is being changed to collect storm water. The lagoon was drained and used as a prairie to provide a home to native plants, but the soil wasn’t conducive for growth.
Friends of Long View Park decided to fill the lagoon with water again to help storm drainage as part of an effort to make it look like it did more than a century ago. Project managers are waiting for a grant to continue restoring the conservatory.
