An 18-year-old Davenport man who faces four charges of animal torture has been released on bond and is scheduled for a hearing in Scott County Court, according to Scott County Court records.
Erick Childs faces four aggravated misdemeanor charges of animal torture – first offense – after an incident about 3 p.m. Sunday, when Davenport Police responded to Sylvan Court in reference to four kittens being tortured, court documents show.
Childs “was captured on video throwing a white cloth bag with 4 kittens inside into a tree causing the kittens to fall around 8-10 feet. (He) willfully inflicted severe pain by throwing the kittens into a tree and falling 8-10 feet causing prolonged suffering with 1 of the 4 kittens deceased at the scene.”
According to a Monday, July 21, order from Scott County Court, Childs qualifies for a court-appointed attorney, but “There are no attorneys available as the State Public Defender has not coordinated any attorneys to accept such appointments. The request for a court-appointed attorney will be fulfilled as soon as an attorney becomes available.”
Childs, who was released on $5,000 bond from Scott County Jail, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing July 31 in Scott County Court.
