Charges are pending against three suspects in car break-ins in the Long Grove area, according to a news release from the Scott County Sheriff’s Office.
About 6:45 a.m. Saturday, the Scott Emergency Communication Center received reports of three suspects attempting to break into vehicles in the area of Long Grove. The callers said a suspect vehicle was a gray Toyota Camry.
Deputies arrived in the area, and were not able to locate the vehicle right away. Information was received that the car may have headed east toward Park View.
Deputies checked the area and located a car matching the description just outside of Park View. A traffic stop was attempted on the suspect car, which took off from the deputies south on Scott Park Road.
A deputy south of the location was able to set up spike strips, which the suspect car ran over. It
then continued south on Highway 61 toward Davenport, traveling at an excessive speed over the posted speed limit, the release says.
The suspect car continued south into Davenport, and ran red lights. As the car approached the intersection of Welcome Way and 42nd Street, it struck the rear end of a white 2017 Ford Edge that was stopped at the intersection.
One of the occupants of the suspect car took off running, but was later apprehended without further incident. One of the other passengers was taken into custody just outside of the car without incident. The driver was found to be stuck inside the vehicle and was ultimately able to get out and was transferred to medical personnel.
All three occupants were transported to the hospital for further treatment, while the three occupants of the Ford Edge were checked by medical personnel on the scene and released.
The driver of the suspect car was identified as being a minor from Davenport who remains in the hospital in critical condition. One of the two passengers was identified as being another minor from Davenport.
The third passenger who ran from the car was identified as 18-year-old Vester Anderson of Bettendorf.
It was later discovered that multiple vehicles in Long Grove and Park View had either been broken into or someone had attempted to gain access to them. The car the suspects were in was reported stolen in Davenport.
“Charges on all individuals involved are pending at this time,” the release says.
