SIOUX CITY, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — The Miracle League of Sioux City is celebrating 10 years with 24 hours of playing catch at Miracle League Field in Riverside Park.
Kevin Negaard, the organization’s founder, played catch every day for a year awhile back to raise money for the non-profit. This year, he had the idea to make the game 24-hours-long, with the goal of raising $50,000.
It started at 2 p.m. on Monday with more than 600 people expected to take part.
“We’re ten years old, and so our original surfaces on the playground and the original field need to be replaced. So we’re looking to do that. I’m getting tired, that’s for sure, but I’m looking forward to. It’s going to pick up as the day goes, and the more people playing it just keeps you going. So yeah, the people going makes me feel better,” said Negaard.
Negaard hopes that, in addition to raising money for the organization, this event will also help increase the community’s awareness of the Miracle League Field. Negaard will be at the miracle field until 2 p.m. on Tuesday for folks hoping to join him playing catch.
