The 2024-25 girl’s high school wrestling season began last week and the Mount Ayr Raiderettes kicked off the season at the SW Valley tournament last Saturday.
Seven Mount Ayr wrestlers placed ninth out of 12 scoring teams at the tournament with 41 team points. All but one Mount Ayr wrestler placed at the tournament.
Mount Ayr will be back on the mat on December 19 when they host a home meet. The Raiderettes will also be at the Pride of Iowa Girls’ tournament on Saturday, December 21 at Wayne.
Mount Ayr was led by a third-place finish at 170 by Brylee Schwebach. Schwebach had four matches and was 2-2. Schwebach was in a round-robin bracket winning her first and last matches, both by pin. Schwebach pinned Leah Brownlee from Winterset in 41 seconds and Lena Flynn from Southwest Iowa in 1:09.
Mount Ayr’s Addilynn Burton placed fourth at 115 and was 1-2 in three matches. After falling in the quarterfinals, Burton won her first consolation match by fall over Kamryn Woods from Maryville in 0:21 to reach the third-place match.
Mount Ayr had a pair of fifth and sixth-place finishes. Tarynn Dredge and Adalynn Dredge placed fifth at 135 and 140. Tarynn Dredge was 1-2 in three matches and won the fifth-place match with a pin over MeChayla Stanely from Winterset. Adalynn Dredge was 2-2 in four matches. Dredge lost in the quarterfinals, won a consolation match, and then won the fifth palace match with a pin over Sayuri Meadors from Mount Ayr in 1:50.
Two Raiderettes placed sixth with Addison Doolittle taking sixth at 130 and Sayuri Meadors taking sixth at 140. Doolittle had three matches at 130 and Meadors had three matches at 140.
Also at the meet but no placing was Hannah Swaney at 130. Swaney competed in a pair of matches and gained valuable experience.
