
A 37-year-old Wisconsin man was in custody Saturday after Bettendorf Police say they found a stolen gun, fentanyl pills, and suspected heroin in his car, court records show.
Aaron Young, of Sun Prairie, faces three charges of controlled substance violation, three charges of failure to affix a drug tax stamp, trafficking in stolen weapons – first offense, and dominion/control of a firearm/offensive weapon by a felon, according to court records. All are felony charges.
Shortly before 2:30 p.m. Thursday, police saw Young driving a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze in the area of Horizon Court and Hawthorne Drive, Bettendorf, arrest affidavits show.
In the driver’s side door pocket, police say in affidavits, was a plastic bag with three packaged baggies of suspected heroin with an approximate weight of 1.44 grams total package weight, as well as 8.29 grams total package weight of more than 30 fentanyl pills stamped with the label “m30.” Also in the car were 4.14 grams total package weight of marijuana, affidavits say..
“A small child was located inside of the vehicle within reaching distance of the above mentioned controlled substances,” according to arrest affidavits.
Officers executed a search warrant at a residence in Scott County where Young had been observed during surveillance and found Young’s “stash of illegal drugs” inside the residence, affidavits show. Officers found:
- 171.14 grams total package weight of marijuana in seven baggies
- 11 baggies of suspected heroin weighing 11.96 grams total package weight
- three like-sized baggies of suspected fentanyl pills with the “m30” stamp, estimated to be more than 100 dosage units
- another package of blue fentanyl pills weighing 169.16 grams total package weight (about 1,000 fentanyl pills)
- additional packaging material
- a functioning digital scale
- a Ruger .380 semi-automatic handgun that was reported stolen.
“Also at this residence was a small toddler who had access to the above-mentioned controlled substances. (Young) has an extensive criminal history including felony convictions and is currently wanted out of the state of Wisconsin on felony warrants,” police say in affidavits.
Young, who was being held Saturday on a $75,000 cash-only bond in Scott County Jail, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Nov. 15 in Scott County Court.
What is fentanyl?
Fentanyl is a strong opioid used as a pain medication. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is up to 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine. It is a major contributor to fatal and nonfatal overdoses in the United States.
