Davenport man in custody after Bettendorf gun incident

A 33-year-old Davenport man was in custody late Wednesday after a gun-related incident in Bettendorf, court records say.

According to court documents, Tyrese Triplett faces these charges:

  • Three aggravated misdemeanor charges of first-degree harassment,
  • A felony charge of assault while participating in a felony
  • Three aggravated misdemeanor charges of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon
  • A felony charge of dominion/control of a firearm/offensive weapon by a felon.

About 12:34 a.m. Tuesday, police were called to the 2300 block of Grant Street, Bettendorf, for a report of a man causing a disturbance and threatening people with a gun, arrest affidavits show.

Witnesses identified Triplett as the man with a gun, affidavits say. Triplett took off and ignored officers’ commands to stay on the scene. He was found a short time later and again ignored officers’ commands before he was taken into custody.

Affidavits say Triplett intentionally pointed a loaded gun at three victims and threatened to kill them, “which placed them in fear of being hurt or killed.” The gun was recovered and found to be loaded.

Triplett, who is on parole for another charge, was being held Wednesday night in Scott County Jail on $20,000 cash-only bond. He is set for a preliminary hearing Sept. 13 in Scott County Court.
