SIOUX CITY, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — Missouri River Historical Development (MRHD) has announced the two Siouxland organizations that will receive additional emergency grants due to the recent local flooding.

According to a release, MRHD is awarding $30,000 in critical funding to two local organizations working to provide relief and recovery support.

“In light of the unprecedented flooding that has affected Woodbury County, IA, and Union County, SD, these grants are intended to bolster efforts to restore communities and support residents whose homes were significantly impacted,” Board President Sarah Kleber said in part in a statement.

The two organizations to receive the second rounds of emergency grants are:

Sponsored
  • American Red Cross – Northwest Iowa and Northeast Nebraska Chapter, to provide support for recovery response to those affected by the flood event.
  • Community Action Agency of Siouxland, to cover the costs of case management and services for the administration of the Siouxland Recovery Fund, allowing all of those donations to be awarded to impacted households.

Both organizations will be awarded $15,000.

“With this second round of emergency grant funding, MRHD has provided a total of more than $100,000 for flood relief,” Kleber said in part in her statement. “This reflects our ongoing commitment to assisting the affected communities in their time of need in hopes that they will be able to sustain and rebuild.”

Additional emergency funds are available and may be awarded in connection with the current Impact Match Grant program, which was modified for projects arising out of the June 2024 flooding.
