A cooking fire in Davenport yesterday injured one person.
The Davenport Fire Department was called to a structure fire in the 3500 Block of W. Hayes Street on Wednesday, September 4 at about 5:31 p.m. They responded with 16 personnel with five apparatus and one command vehicle. The caller reported a fire inside the home and one person was injured. Dispatch advised it was a kitchen fire.
The first unit that arrived found a small, single-family home with no flames or smoke showing from the outside. Crews found smoke inside the home from a cooking fire that was out before the fire department arrived. The fire caused damage to a shelf above the stove and the microwave and there was smoke damage to the walls and ceiling around and above the stove.
Crews were onsite for about 30 minutes, checking the area above the stove to ensure the fire was completely out and using a fan to remove smoke from the home. The owner was allowed to remain in the home, but one person was injured and taken for treatment by private vehicle. There were no reported firefighter injuries.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
