SIOUX CITY, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — A tradition for Iowa governors is returning to raise money for a local charity.

In just over a month, the 42nd annual Iowa Governor’s Charity Steer Show will help raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Iowa (RMHC). On Tuesday at RMHC of Siouxland, organizers introduced Jacob Ringkob of Lawton as this year’s 4H member who will show the steer.

Last year, the charity raised more than half a million dollars. Executive director Christy Batien Clark said proceeds from the event play a big part in what the organization can offer to families.

“This [fundraiser] not only has an impact here but has an impact across the state of Iowa,” she said. “It affects every Iowan that has a sick child, which is a lot of people so.”

This year’s Steer Show is August 10 at 4:30 p.m. at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.

RMHC of Siouxland provides families with a place to stay while their child is receiving medical care.
