ODEBOLT, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — A man had to be flown to a burn center after a fire in rural Odebolt.
The Sac County Sheriff’s Office said in a release that a rural Odebolt resident called around 9:10 a.m. on July 3 saying his house was on fire and that he was still in the building. The residence was about four miles south of Odebolt on 370th Street.
The first deputy to arrive on the scene found foot sticking out of a sliding door on the south side of the house. The deputy assisted the 60-year-old man up and out of the building before the Odebolt Fire Department arrived on the scene. Wall Lake, Lake View and Kiron Fire Departments also responded to the fire.
The man had burn injuries on the top part of his body, the release said. Emergency responders were bale to medically stabilize the man. Meanwhile, officials shut down Highway 39 at 370th Street to create a landing zone for a medical helicopter. The man was then taken to a burn center, but the sheriff’s office said the man’s condition is unknown.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office is working to determine the origin of the fire.
