DES MOINES, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — UPDATE (7/9/2024): Woodbury County has been added to the list of counties approved under the Presidential Major Disaster Declaration.
Woodbury County is the ninth county to be approved for Individual Assistance under the disaster declaration. The others are Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Emmet, Lyon, Plymouth, O’Brien, and Sioux Counties.
The declaration comes after the county experienced storms and flooding in June and just 24 hours after city council members said they were hopeful help was on its way.
“So critical that we get this federal disaster declaration from the president,” Sioux City Mayor Pro Tempore Dan Moore said. “It will open up more avenues for grants and we can start rebuilding. I mean can you imagine being displaced form your home and you can’t rebuild right away because you don’t know if the money is going to be there?”
