SIOUX CITY, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — The Southern Hills Mall has announced the installation of a new wheelchair charging station.
According to a release, the station has a 24-volt, 5-amp charger, which can provide a full charge in 30 minutes. Additionally, there is a USB port that can allow individuals to charge their phones at the same time.
The station can be found near the JC Penny entrance on the northwest wall. This location makes it possible to enjoy food and shopping without running out of battery or having to leave earlier than planned.
“The addition of this unit will benefit all those shoppers in need of charging their wheelchair or scooter while visiting the Southern Hills Mall,” said Specialty Leasing Manager Lillyan Rodriguez. “We have also added a seating area for companions as a token of appreciation for being at the Southern Hills Mall. We are very honored and thankful that Siouxland District Health Department let us be part of this initiative by providing us this unit to better the entire Siouxland Community.”
The wheelchair charging station was added in response to a survey conducted by All Abilities Health and Wellness Coalition and SDHD. The release specified that more than 60% of respondents indicated that a charging station was needed in Morningside near the mall.
“Through grant funding, SDHD was able to provide Southern Hills Mall the wheelchair charging station,” SDHD Health Promotion Specialist Angela Drent said. We are pleased to see value in adding this important amenity in the community and that they were willing to partner with us to offer one at the mall.”
The release noted that this station marks the seventh wheelchair charging station in Woodbury County. Other stations can be found at Miracle League Park, Chris Larsen Park, MLK Transportation Center, The Warming Shelter, Snyder Bend Park, and the Woodbury County Fairgrounds.
