A Perry man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after allegedly attempting to elude law enforcement.
Eduardo Torres Aguilar, 30, of 1420 North St., Perry, was charged with eluding and interference with official acts and was issued citations for speeding, no valid driver’s license, no insurance, open container and failure to yield to emergency vehicle.
The incident began about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 3000 block of eastbound Iowa Highway 141 in Perry, where a patrolling officer of the Perry Police Department observed Torres Aguilar operating a 2008 Chevy Aveo and “traveling at a speed of 73 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone,” according to court records.
The officer activated the emergency lights and siren of the patrol vehicle in order to initiate a traffic stop, but Torres Aguilar “showed no intention of stopping” and instead began “to pick up speed in an attempt to evade” the officer, according to court records.
Torres Aguilar drove “erratically” southward on 141st Drive and then fled the vehicle on foot. He “failed to obey multiple lawful orders to stop running” before a second officer intercepted and detained him.
A search of the vehicle disclosed “open containers of alcohol,” according to court records.
Torres Aguilar is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing July 12 in Dallas County District Court.
