The National Weather Service offices in Johnston have issued a tornado watch for the Perry area until 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Multiple tornados are possible as well as damaging winds gusting to 70 mph. Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail to 2 inches in diameter are also possible.
Along with Dallas County, the tornado watch is in effect for 41 other Iowa counties and includes the cities of Perry and Adair, Adel, Albia, Allerton, Ames, Bayard, Bloomfield, Boone, Carlisle, Casey, Centerville, Chariton, Corydon, Creston, Des Moines, Dysart, Earlham, Fontanelle, Gladbrook, Greenfield, Grinnell, Guthrie Center, Humeston, Indianola, Knoxville, Lamoni, Leon, Marshalltown, Mount Ayr, Newton, Norwalk Osceola, Oskaloosa, Ottumwa, Panora, Pella, Seymour, Stuart, Tama, Toledo, Traer, Waukee and Winterset.
