DAKOTA CITY, Neb. (Iowa Media Wire) — A Sioux City man accused of an accidental fatal shooting in South Sioux City has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter.
Tobias Thomas, 23, entered a guilty plea in a written arraignment Monday. He was charged with manslaughter in April.
On April 27, officials said they received a 911 call at 4:23 a.m. for a person who was shot. South Sioux City Police officers and EMS were dispatched to the 2800 block of Flatwater Drive. When they arrived, they found a 24-year-old deceased man with a gunshot wound to the chest.
The victim had allegedly been unintentionally shot by Thomas, who was handling a firearm. Officials believe alcohol was involved during the incident.
A pretrial conference will take place on July 16 at 9 a.m.
