TEA, S.D. (Iowa Media Wire) — More money is being awarded to the Lewis & Clark Regional Water System.

The U.S. Department of the Interior awarded Lewis & Clark $10 million. The money is to support the third and final phase of the water treatment plant, which would complete water service to the cities of Sheldon in Iowa and Madison in South Dakota. The money will also be used to support two meter buildings, a pump station, and several main service pipelines.

The funds comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The Biden Administration has proposed almost $7 million for the water system in the fiscal year 2025 appropriations bill.

Lewis & Clark engineers say they estimate that another $15 million is needed to complete the base system.
