RUNNELLS, IOWA — A Runnells man is dead and a Des Moines is charged with murder after an early morning shooting in eastern Polk County on Thursday.

According to a news release, Polk County Sheriff’s Deputies were first dispatched at 1:06 am to a report of a shooting at 4532 SE 116th Street – a home just outside Runnells. Deputies arrived at the home to find 50-year-old Richard David Selby dead from a gunshot wound.

Deputies say it took them just minutes to identify a suspect vehicle. A little more than two hours later, Des Moines Police spotted the vehicle near E. 42nd Street and Douglas Avenue and took the driver into custody.

Jacob Cole Harbold, 35, is charged with First Degree Murder for the shooting death of Richard Selby. Authorities say the two men did know each other.
