NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D (Iowa Media Wire) — Due to the recent flooding, The American Legion Family is offering assistance to its members.
The members being assisted are a part of The American Legion, The Sons of the American Legion, and The American Legion Auxiliary filing for member benefits offered to active members of the organization as part of their membership benefits suffering from the effects of the recent flooding.
The fund provides up to $3,000 for qualified Legion Family members and up to $10,000 for posts. The eligibility requirements are:
- Applicant must have been displaced from their primary residence due to damage sustained during a declared natural disaster.
- Applicant must provide copies of receipts of items required to meet immediate needs (such as temporary housing, food, water, clothing, diapers, etc.) during the period immediately following the disaster.
- Membership must be active at the time of disaster and the time of application.
“We will be assisting members at the North Sioux City Senior Citizen Center, in South Dakota on Monday, July 1, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in filling out the proper paperwork to help receive the membership grants due to displacement from the recent storms,” the American Legion Family said in their release.
These funds are meant to cover things not covered by FEMA – hotel stays, food, and more. These funds are considered Membership Benefits Grants and will not interfere with FEMA qualifications.
