SPENCER, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — An Illinois man has died after he and his vehicle were swept away by flood waters, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office announced.
According to a release, on Saturday, June 22, the Clay County Communication Center received a call reporting that a red Ford F-150 was trying to cross “rapid flood waters” on 240th Avenue in the 3400 mile. The truck was reportedly being driven by William Schulze of Elburn, Illinois.
It was reported that the truck was swept away and floating in the Little Sioux River. When officials arrived, a witness said the truck floated away to the east. Authorities searched the area, and the truck was eventually found in the tree line, and Schulze was found dead.
At the time, authorities did not attempt a recovery. Over the next few days, several unsuccessful attempts were made. Schulze was recovered on Monday, June 24.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said they later learned that Schulze had been reported missing in Illinois two days ago.
