SIOUX CITY, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — The Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center has announced that it has received “Birding Backpacks.”
The Birding Backpacks are from the Loess Hills Audubon Society. They have donated two backpacks for visitors to use while at the Nature Center to encourage birdwatching and enjoying the outdoors together.
The backpacks include a pair of binoculars, a bird identification book, and local bird guides. The packs are available to use during open hours.
The Loess Hills Audubon Society received funds for this project by a Mildred Anderson Community Grant from the Junior League of Sioux City. They have also donated backpacks to Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve and the Sioux City Public Library.

The Nature Center also recently received a memorial donation of a Haikubox. The device records the calls and songs of birds outdoors.
Visitors can see and hear the birds the Haikubox has recorded here or get the Haikubox App and search for Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center. The recordings are shared with the Cornell University of Ornithology and help track the species in our area.
