Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — Jessica Lopez-Walker has announced her candidacy for Iowa House District 2.
Iowa House District 2 covers parts of Sioux City and some rural areas in Woodbury County.
Lopez-Walker’s slogan is “A Fierce Advocate for All” where she is focused on issues concerning homelessness, affordable housing, daycare, healthcare, small business development, clean water, and clean air for all citizens.
She states, “As an indigenous woman, I will represent the needs and concerns of all citizens of Sioux City, I embrace diversity because it strengthens community and local government.”
Lopez-Walker is an enrolled member of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska and holds degrees in psychology and art from Nebraska Indian College. She is also a small business owner and seamstress, who creates Indigenous fashions, a co-chair for Native PAC for Sioux City Schools, and a co-chair of the annual Memorial March for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Children (MMIA).
Lopez-Walker has been endorsed by the Advance Native Political Leadership and Iowa Federation of Labor AFL-CIO.
