NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. (Iowa Media Wire) – UPDATE (6/26/2024 @6:30 p.m.): There is a small update on the railroad bridge that partially collapsed near North Sioux City Sunday night due to flooding.
BNSF told Iowa Media Wire 9 that repairs on the train bridge will require “extensive repair work,” and that there is not currently a timeline for when repairs would be completed.
Meanwhile, the company said they have crews working on tracks affected by flooding and are making considerable progress.
UPDATE (6/24/2024 @5:50 p.m.) The swolen Big Sioux River caused a rail bridge connecting Iowa and South Dakota to partially collapse Sunday night.
That bridge is less than a mile upstream from the Military Road bridge.
A BNSF spokesperson told Iowa Media Wire 9 that they had not been using the bridge due to flood conditions. The company has re-routed all train traffic.
PREVIOUS (6/24/2024 @1:30 a.m.) A rail bridge in between North Sioux City and Riverside has partially collapsed.
North Sioux City Police say the bridge collapsed at 10:49 p.m. Sunday. The train bridge is located above the Big Sioux River between North Sioux City, and the Riverside neighborhood of Sioux City.
Iowa Media Wire 9 reached out to Union County Emergency Manager Jason Westcott. Westcott said the rail bridge is a truss bridge and some of the trusses have collapsed
According to the Union County Emergency Manager, BNSF Railway has been made aware about the partial collapse.
