MONONA COUNTY, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — UPDATE (6/25/2024 @ 6:13 a.m.): According to officials in Monona County, water has broken through a levee near Ticonic.

Additionally, officials say that anyone in Monona County who lives near the Little Sioux River should be prepared to evacuate at any moment.

PREVIOUS: A flash flood warning has been issued for areas of Monona County along the Little Sioux River after a levee broke, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

According to NWS, the levee failed 600 yards south of Highway 141 just before 5 a.m.

This flash flooding will affect areas near the levee such as Smithland, Rodney, and the surrounding rural area.

Officials are urging that you move to higher ground if you are in these areas, especially lower-lying areas.

During this time, the City of Onawa has opened its community center to residents from these affected areas that need a place to shelter.

The flash floods may also affect areas in southern Woodbury County.
