DAKOTA DUNES S.D. (KELO) — Governor Kristi Noem gave a second press conference in Dakota Dunes this morning to give an update on storms and flooding across KELOLAND.
This is her second press briefing after Interstate 29 was closed last night following record breaking floods in the area.
Noem continues to advise residents near the Big Sioux river and McCook Lake to evacuate if they can. She also requested residents stay away from the affected areas until it is safe, in order to alleviate extra stress on first responders.
A levy has been built along Interstate 29 and currently houses the flood water as part of the emergency plan of North Sioux City. It is still unknown how many homes were lost on McCook Lake.
Noem said she anticipates I-29 can reopen tonight.
KELOLAND will continue to follow the flooding across the state. To stay up to date, follow KELOLAND News on social media or download our app.
